our mission

The mission of STEMpact is to increase the number and diversity of students who are proficient in STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and math) and are ready to explore STEM careers, by advancing the quality of STEM teaching and education programs across the metro area.

This includes:

  • Developing exemplary educators with comprehensive STEM teaching practices, so they can provide high-quality learning experiences for students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
  • Supporting teachers to inspire students to solve problems, produce exemplary outcomes and identify themselves as capable learners in STEM subjects.
  • Developing coherent, targeted STEM training for teachers and other professional development offerings.
  • Building capacity for STEM education programs among professional and informal STEM educators.

By investing in our teachers and students through STEM education programs and training for teachers, we hope to increase the number of students entering STEM fields. Findings show that people employed in STEM fields earn wages that are about 26 percent higher than those of their non-STEM counterparts, and are less likely to experience joblessness. STEM degree holders also enjoy higher earnings, regardless of whether they work in STEM or non-STEM occupations.*

We believe that STEM teaching excellence and subject matter proficiency will not only benefit the students in STEM education programs, but may improve the economic potential of the entire St. Louis metropolitan area.
